Five vehicle crash turns fatal on Route 495 in Raynham
A crash this morning has claimed a life, according to police.
According to Dave Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police, at 07:15 a.m. Massachusetts State Troopers responded to a serious, multiple-vehicle crash on Route 495 northbound, just prior to the Route 138 exit, in Raynham.
One motorist was determined to be deceased at the scene. A second victim who had been operating a different vehicle, but was believed to be out of his vehicle when he was struck, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Procopio stated that the crash was complex and MSP investigators are still working to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Five vehicles, one of which was pulling a trailer, were involved in the crash.
At this time, only the left lane on 495 northbound is open to traffic in the area of the crash. Remaining travel lanes and the breakdown lane approaching and at the crash scene remain closed.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County.
