Firearm threat at Rhode Island school leads to gun and drug charges, arrest of two teens

An incident at a Rhode Island school led to multiple teens being charged.

According to police, on Thursday, at approximately 8:40 a.m., a school resource officer at the Woonsocket High School was immediately notified by staff that a student made threats to get a firearm and return to assault another student.

The 16-year-old student was also observed to be agitated and leaving the school. The school was placed in a lockdown and within a short time, the student was located walking close to his residence. With the student secure, the school lockdown was lifted.

Officers met with a parent at the student’s home and were able to search the residence.

Another juvenile was located hiding in a bedroom of the residence along with numerous packages of marijuana, a Taurus .380 caliber revolver, a .177 caliber rifle, ammunition and a machete.

The 16-year-old was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a person <18 (2cts), Possession of Ammunition by a Person <18 and Disorderly Conduct.

The 15-year-old was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person <18 (2cts), Possession of Ammunition by a Person <18, and Possession of Marijuana more than 1 ounce.

Both teens were remanded to the RI Training School.
