EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department arrested two individuals on drug and firearms charges over the weekend.

On Saturday at just after 3:30 p.m., East Bridgewater Police officers conducting a routine traffic patrol in the area of 604 Bedford St., observed a black Volkswagen sedan traveling north without an inspection sticker. While officers were following the vehicle, it made an abrupt turn into the Carriage Crossing Plaza and drove towards East Bridgewater Cinemas. Officers activated their blue lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle pulled into a parking spot and the front seat passenger exited the vehicle. Officers instructed the passenger to remain in the vehicle, and the passenger obeyed. Officers determined the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 20-year-old Kyle Conward of Mansfield, did not have a driver’s license, that the vehicle was not insured, and the license plates belonged to a different vehicle. Officers placed Conward under arrest.

Officers noted the passenger, later identified as 22-year-old Kelvin Cardoso of East Bridgewater, had active felony arrest warrants out of another court. Officers then also placed Cardoso under arrest.

Officers initiated a search of the vehicle and located a loaded firearm in the glove compartment. Neither Conward nor Cardoso have a license to carry a firearm or a Firearms Identification card. Officers also seized a clear baggie with 11 foil packages containing marijuana.

Conward and Cardoso were transported to the East Bridgewater Police Department for booking.

Conward was arrested and charged with Possession of a Class D Substance with Intent to Distribute (Marijuana More Than 60 Grams), Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Number Plate Violation To Conceal Identity of Vehicle, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Firearm Without a Serial Number, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without an LTC/FID.

Cardoso was arrested and charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession of a Firearm Without a Serial Number, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without an LTC/FID.

Both individuals were arraigned Monday morning in Brockton District Court.
