ATTLEBORO — The Attleboro Fire Department has announced that they responded to a car dealership at 957 Washington St. early Saturday morning for a fire which appears to be suspicious.

At just after midnight, crews were dispatched for a reported dumpster fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two vehicles fully involved in fire.

Using firefighting foam, crews were able to quickly contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to additional vehicles nearby. The fire was extinguished in approximately 10 minutes.

The fire had spread to a second vehicle by the time crews arrived.

“There was potential for multiple additional vehicles to catch fire,” District Chief Mike Maitland said. “The quick actions of responding crews prevented further loss.”

The Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit was called to the scene. Lead investigator Capt. Nick Sheehan said the investigation remains in its early stages. The dealership is cooperating fully with investigators.

“This is still very early in the investigation, but due to the nature of the fire, it is being investigated as suspicious at this time,” Sheehan said.

Crews remained on scene until approximately 1:18 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
