Fire Department: Multi-vehicle crash on Route 138 leads to injuries

A local multi-vehicle highway crash led to injuries.

According to MFD, on Wednesday afternoon, the Middletown Fire Department Dispatch began receiving 911 calls reporting a car into a building. Middletown Engine 2, Rescue 1 and Car 1 and found a 3-car motor vehicle accident where one of the cars drove into a commercial building, the former GameStop location on East Main Road (Route 138). 

The vehicle struck two parked cars before colliding with a large structural column supporting the building’s parapet wall. Fire crews arrived on scene to assess the damage and ensure the structural integrity of the building. 

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Newport Hospital for evaluation. No other injuries were reported. 

The Middletown Fire Department worked alongside Middletown Police and Middletown Building Inspector to secure the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
