Fire crews extinguish blaze after heavy-duty plow trucks found fully involved in fire
Crews responded Saturday after plow trucks from a local community were found ablaze.
According to the department, Lakeville Firefighters were dispatched to the area of Bedford Street and Lakeside Avenue for a reported “outside fire” just before 11:00 p.m.
Engine 2 arrived at a local business and found two heavy-duty plow trucks fully involved in fire.
The trucks had been deployed throughout the week during blizzard recovery operations. Numerous other plow trucks, assorted heavy equipment, and a maintenance building were in danger of being destroyed by the fire.
Lieutenant Greg Bradstreet requested a recall for supplemental staffing, bringing Engine 1, Tanker 1, and Car 1 to the scene.
Firefighters were able to stop the advancing fire, limiting damage to the two original vehicles.
The cause of the fire is not known. The trucks had been stationary for more than 24 hours after logging more than 100 hours of operation each during the storm response. Nothing suspicious was identified.
Chief O’Brien expressed his appreciation for the firefighters who responded and worked aggressively to contain the fire despite coming off an extremely challenging week.
