A 14-year-old eighth-grade student was found deceased in Massachusetts early Saturday morning.

Peabody Police responded to a 911 call, and first responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office, Peabody Police, Massachusetts State Police, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are investigating the cause and manner of death, however, school parents, the child’s father, and groups are saying Jason Bernard committed suicide due to bullying.

“My son decided to take the tragic decision to end his life after receiving bullying at school. We must raise awareness and stop the bullying! I appreciate your cooperation during this difficult time. God bless you.”

The Peabody Special Education Parent Advisory Council stated that “our 8th grade students and community as a whole suffered a preventable loss yesterday. Please consider donating to the family or if you are unable to donate, share the link below. Talk to your kids. There are many resources available. If you are struggling, please reach out for help.”

A memorial vigil for Bernard is reportedly being held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at 10 Veterans Memorial Drive in Peabody.
