Family members say Fall River woman who was seriously injured in pedestrian crash walking her dog is still alive despite reports

Despite reports, family members say a woman who was seriously injured in a collision that killed her pet dog is still alive.

Family has told Fall River Reporter that the victim, which was identified as Jessica O., is in very critical condition but still fighting for her life.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 19th, a woman and her dog were reportedly hit on Brayton Avenue near the Route 24 exit.

Lieutenant Matthew Mendes had confirmed that a woman and her dog were struck by a motor vehicle.

She sustained critical injuries and was transported to a trauma center.

The dog died as a result of its injuries. 

According to a family friend and a GoFundMe fundraiser, shortly after the incident, doctors had been performing CT scans every six hours on Jessica to closely monitor the bleeding and pressure in her brain.

The family friend stated that Jessica and her beloved dog shared a special bond.

The incident is still currently under investigation by the Major Crimes Division and members of the Accident Reconstruction Unit.
