Family members are cheering after former Massachusetts firefighter hits $1 million State Lottery prize
A Massachusetts man’s grandkids are pretty happy after he decided where his winnings are going after a big State Lottery win.
According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Walter Murphy of Dorchester has won a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$2,000,000 50X Cashword” instant ticket game.
He purchased his winning ticket at J & J Mini Mart located at 131 W. Broadway in South Boston. Murphy said that he only plays Cashword tickets and that he buys them from the same store.
Murphy, a retired firefighter and grandfather of 12 with two more on the way, said he plans to spend his winnings on his grandchildren. He chose to receive his prize in the form of a one-time cash payment of $650,000 (before taxes).
The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.
