Family and friends remember man recovered from Blackstone River
Family and friends have released the name of a man whose body was found in the Blackstone River this past weekend.
On Monday, those who knew 35-year-old Derek Martineau announced his untimely passing.
Martineau was reportedly heard yelling for help Sunday night and then called police before he entered the water.
Woonsocket and Cumberland dive teams searched for Martineau, and he was found not long after his call to police.
Martineau was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to WPRI 12, police said they reviewed video footage that showed Martineau “entering the river on his own while in a state of distress.”
Friends and family of Martineau described him as a man with a good heart and a great smile that left this world way too soon.
A cause of death has yet to be revealed.
