Fall River’s Sanon starting sophomore season closer to home for Big East favorite
A basketball star from Fall River is set to start his sophomore season for a new team with high expectations.
Joson Sanon and his #5 ranked St. John’s teammates are set to begin their season Monday at home against Quinnipiac at Carnesecca Arena as the preseason favorites to defend their conference title.
In March it was announced that Sanon was transferring from Arizona State to the Red Storm coached by the legend Rick Pitino.
“Coach Pitino believes in me and my potential and what he can do for me,” Sanon told ESPN. “He preaches working hard, and I want to show him I’m the hardest working player that’s ever played for him. The way Coach P teaches defense is something I want to invest my time into.”
Sanon was selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team and is expected to start.
Prior to ASU’s last game of the season, Sanon scored 81 points in a 4-game stretch and averaged nearly 16 points a game in the first month of the season. In the middle of the season, Sanon was hampered by a high ankle sprain.
The Bobby Hurley coached Sun Devils had a difficult season finishing 13-19 and 4-17 in the Big 12 Conference which includes the end of year tournament.
Sanon’s move to St. John’s in New York puts him in the Big East, closer to home, and easier for Fall Riverites to catch him in action.
Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. on FS1 (Fox Sports 1).
