Fall River’s Joson Sanon selects West Virginia University after leaving St. John’s
Joson Sanon, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Fall River, Massachusetts has reportedly picked his new destination after entering the NCAA transfer portal.
According to multiple reports, Sanon has selected West Virginia University.
West Virginia had an up-and-down 2025-26 season in the Big 12, failing to make the NCAA Tournament but finished strong winning the inaugural College Basketball Crown. Under coach Ross Hodge, WVU finished 21-14 overall, overcoming inconsistent shooting during the regular season to win the post-season title.
The 20-year-old Sanon appeared in all 37 games for the Red Storm in the 2025–26 season, averaging 7.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while often coming off the bench. He shot 33.8% from the field and 33.6% from three-point range.
Sanon began his college career at Arizona State as a five-star prospect. In his freshman season he played in 27 games (nine starts), averaging 11.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2% from the field and 36.9% from three. He logged significant minutes (28.3 per game) and showed strong scoring ability as a highly touted recruit.
A product of B.M.C. Durfee High School and later Vermont Academy, Sanon was a consensus top-25 national recruit in the class of 2024. He transferred to St. John’s ahead of the 2025–26 season to play for Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino and helped the Red Storm reach the NCAA Tournament.
