Fall River’s Joson Sanon beginning to hit stride with new St. John’s squad
Touted as one of the top young ballers in the country, Fall River’s Joson Sanon is beginning to hit his stride with his new team.
Sanon, who finished strong in his freshman season with Arizona State, started out a little slow offensively with his new St John’s squad but has picked it up as of late.
Legendary head coach Rick Pitino has had Sanon, who he called one of the best shooters he has ever seen, playing solid defense all year long, but the scoring wasn’t always there.
On Saturday, Sanon notched 13 points, hitting three from deep, in St. John’s 91-64 rout over Iona. Sanon also added 5 rebounds playing at the guard position.
On Tuesday, Sanon was two points shy of being the Red Storm’s top scorer with 15 points, as they opened up their Big East season with a 79-66 win over DePaul at home. Sanon grabbed a whopping 9 boards to lead the team despite being just 6’5″.
This year’s St. John’s team (ranked 21st in the country) is far more talented than last year’s Arizona State Squad which will leave Sanon not always leading them in scoring, but he clearly has improved his defense and rebounding, making him a more skilled player in addition to his precise outside shooting.
7-3 St. John’s will be facing a talented Kentucky team in Georgia on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
