A Fall River woman who gave decades serving her community, even while ill, has died.

According to an obituary, 64-year-old Debra Lomas has passed away after a 10-year battle with cancer.

“She was a dedicated paraprofessional at Doran Elementary School in Fall River, where she loved working with children and making a difference in their lives. She extended this love through her work at Citizens for Citizens on Robeson Street in their afterschool program. Having earned her associate degree, she was a hardworking and determined woman who took great pride in helping others.

“Family meant everything to her. She was actively involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews, loving them as if they were her own children. She rarely missed their games, performances, and special events, always cheering them on and supporting them.”

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Debra has always been someone who works hard and cares deeply for those around her.

Her funeral services will take place at a later date following cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Manuel Rogers Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River.
