Fall River wanted man sentenced to prison concerning violent attack, armed robbery
37-year-old Jorge Lamas, previously of Fall River, was convicted Wednesday afternoon in the Fall River Superior Court of Mayhem, Armed Robbery and Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon after a jury trial and was immediately sentenced to serve five to seven years in State Prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.
On July 19, 2006, Lamas, who was 18 years old at the time, orchestrated an attack on a 17-year-old male victim. The defendant was part of a group who lured the victim to a path in the area of the Rolling Green Apartments in Fall River, now known as the Southwinds Apartments. Once the victim was lured to this secluded location, he was attacked by some members of the group, including Lamas. The victim was struck and slashed in the face by Lamas, and others, who used 4 to 5 beer bottles as weapons. Once the victim was on the ground, he was then punched and kicked by this defendant and other members of the group. After the attack, some members of the group disbursed at which time Lamas and another robbed the victim of his sneakers. The victim’s cell phone was also stolen during the incident. Lamas threatened the victim and told him not to contact the police.
The victim suffered significant injuries that included severe lacerations to his face that required over 40 stitches. The victim was familiar with Lamas and was able to identify him to police. During the pendency of the case Lamas defaulted in May of 2008 and fled from Massachusetts. He was apprehended in California in June of 2023 and was transported back to Massachusetts to face these charges.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Troy Murphy and Matthew Lopes.
“I am pleased that the jury held the defendant accountable for this brutal and senseless act of violence. Unfortunately, this case was delayed for 16 years because the Defendant fled the City of Fall River and was apprehended in California last year ,” District Attorney Quinn said.
