Fall River to build Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, fundraiser Sunday
According to Massachusetts State Representative Alan Silvia, the Fall River Park Commission announced unanimous approval for a permanent Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Upon approving a request from the Vietnam Veterans Wall Committee, the 80% scale Memorial Wall will be located at Veterans Bicentennial Park adjacent to Battleship Cove.
The Memorial Wall will be purchased from a Texas based company and owned by retired LTC Don Allen, US Army Vietnam Veteran.
The wall will measure approximately 360’ by 8’ and be displayed alongside the WW II Memorial and the Korean and Gold Star Memorials located at the park. This project is expected to open in 2020 as fund raising efforts have begun.
The Chairmen of the Vietnam Veterans Committee is Joseph Marshall, Air Force Security Service, Vietnam Veteran, who has directed the committees to move forward now that the project has the final approval.
A fundraiser, Men Can Cook, is this Sunday at the Liberal Club @ 3:00 P.M. to support this Memorial Wall. Senator Michael Rodrigues, Rep. Alan Silvia, and Daniel M Rego are among the cooks. The chefs will bring their best homemade dishes, and guests will be voting for their top 3 favorites. There will be raffle prizes, trophies for the winners, a cash bar, and a variety of different foods and desserts. Tickets are $20 and can be bought at the door.
