A Fall River teen accused of murder was arraigned Friday in 3rd Division District Court.

Colonel Michael J. Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, previously announced the arrest of 19year-old D’Maury Monteiro of Fall River in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old male at the Pocasset Village Apartments at 947-949 Dyer Avenue.

On August 11th at approximately 9:21 a.m., Cranston Police officers responded to reports of a male lying unresponsive in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, later identified as Eduardo Loran Colon of Providence, and formerly of Fall River, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper chest. The Cranston Fire Department pronounced him deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation and surveillance footage revealed that the shooting occurred at approximately 2:53 a.m. during an altercation involving three individuals in the complex’s parking lot. During the confrontation, Monteiro allegedly produced a firearm and fired multiple rounds at the victim at close range before fleeing the scene in a silver Hyundai Elantra. The suspect and victim, along with a third party, arrived at the apartment complex in a stolen car out of Fall River. They exited wearing black clothing and masks, and appeared to be preparing to break into a vehicle when the suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim.

Detectives recovered several pieces of evidence, including multiple 40 caliber shell casings, bullet fragments, and surveillance video capturing the incident. Two vehicles involved in the investigation were seized as evidence. Cranston Police Detectives worked closely with several partner agencies, including the Providence Police, Cranston Police, Fall River Police, and the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office during this intensive investigation. An arrest warrant for murder was signed last night. The suspect was tracked to Fuller Street in Dorchester, MA where the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Massachusetts State Police along with the Boston Police Department took him suspect into custody. The stolen vehicle used by the suspect to travel to the Pocasset Village Apartments was recovered in Providence last evening. A search warrant is being executed at the Fuller Stret address in Dorchester to search for other evidence.

Monteiro was eventually extradited to Rhode Island and Friday faced one count of first-degree murder, Carry Pistol or Revolver Without License or Permit, and Using a Firearm When Committing a Crime of Violence – 1st Offense.

He was held without bail, according to court records.

“This was a brazen act of violence that took the life of a young man,” said Colonel Winquist. “Our detectives acted quickly to identify and apprehend the suspect, and we will continue to work diligently to bring all those involved to justice. Our thoughts are with this young man’s family as they deal with a tragic loss. I also wish to thank our partner law enforcement agencies for their assistance in the investigation and safe apprehension of the suspect.”
