Fall River south end crash knocks out power to nearly 1,400 customers

Several crews are currently responding to a crash that knocked out power in Fall River.

A call came into dispatch just before 7:30 p.m. for a vehicle crash into a pole in the area of Birch and Bay Streets.

The collision cracked the telephone pole in half.

Responders also stated that lightning hit the pole and also blew the transformer.

According to National Grid, power was knocked out to 1,365 customers and it was still out as of 8:00 p.m. and is expected to be restore at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle appeared to be ok according to a witness.

The area is currently blocked off by police while crews deal with the collision and restore power.

    Yeah but they won’t restore it till 5am. That’s almost 12 hours without power during a heatwave. I called them. They told me to get a hotel room but when I told them I had animals including one with cancer they said not their problem. They should have a backup plan for these types of situations. Very poor customer service when talking to customers.

      Instead of being mad at National Grid be mad at the idiot who hit the pole.

        I’m mad at both. They took too long to fix it. Plus the customer service was an a****** to me.

      It’s an accident an they can’t pay for everybody who is affected by it!!! Lol if anything they should help elderly people first but it would take longer to move people to a hotel than to actually fix it if not people would be without it twice as long if they had to remove all people to a hotel because they’re inconvenienced.
