The Fall River School Committee unanimously selected Wednesday Elizabeth “Liz” Legault as interim Deputy Superintendent of Schools.

The Interim Deputy Superintendent position is a newly established role within the district, designed to strengthen leadership and support key operational areas. In this role, Legault will oversee the Human Resources Department and play a critical part in advancing district-wide initiatives.

Legault is an accomplished educational leader with more than three decades of experience in public education across Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

She most recently served as Superintendent of Schools for the East Bridgewater Public Schools, a position she held for nearly a decade until her resignation in April 2025.

A longtime educator, Legault began her career as a physical education teacher in 1992 and later advanced to principal roles in the Central Falls School District in Rhode Island, where she served for 20 years. In between roles in Central Falls, she served as assistant principal at East Providence High School from Jul 2003 to June 2004. From December 2013 to May 2015, Legault was Superintendent of Schools at Whitehall Central School District. She went on to become Superintendent in East Bridgewater in 2015, guiding the district through significant growth and challenges while earning a reputation as a collaborative and student-focused leader. In 2024, she was named a finalist for the superintendent position in Fall River Public Schools.

Legault holds a degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Providence College.

She has built a career centered on leadership development, equity in education, and community engagement. She is based in North Providence, Rhode Island, but has deep professional roots in southeastern Massachusetts.

Legault has recently been a finalist for Superintendent of Schools at multiple Massachusetts districts.

“I am honored and excited to join the Fall River Public Schools team,” said Ms. Legault. “I look forward to working collaboratively to support all of our students and their families, while partnering with our administrators, faculty, and staff to foster a positive, inclusive, and high achieving learning environment. I am committed to contributing to the continued growth and success of the district and to serving the broader Fall River community with dedication and integrity.”

Legault will begin her role as Deputy Superintendent on April 6th.

The Fall River School Committee also selected an interim Superintendent of Schools on Wednesday.
