Fall River road, highway closures to bring detours to local drivers

MassDOT has announced road closures that will impact Fall River and Freetown residents and drivers.

Bridge deck replacement and overpass painting at Airport Road in Fall River will be conducted from May 9 to June 16 (weather permitting). This work will result in closures of the eastbound side of the overpass (headed into the industrial park), with eastbound traffic diverted to Innovation Way in Freetown. Route 24 North & South may also be closed as needed for overnights during those dates as well, with traffic being detoured again through Innovation Way.

 

Airport Road Project Detour routes

Eastbound Airport Rd Detour (24 hours)

1. Start out going NE on N. Main Street

2. Enter rotary and take the 3rd exit onto N. Main Street.

3. Proceed North to INNOVATION WAY.

4. Turn Right at Traffic Light.

5. Continue East on INNOVATION WAY toward Airport Road

6. Turn Right onto Airport Road.

 

Route 24 Northbound Detour (9 p.m.- 5 a.m.)
(Coming from the South Route 24)

1. Start out going North on 24 N

2. Take the Airport Rd/N. Main St. Exit 8A

3. Turn left onto Airport Rd.

4. Enter rotary and take the 2nd exit onto N. Main street

5. Turn right on to INNOVATION WAY

6. Continue on INNOVATION WAY toward route 24NB Exit on the Right.

 

Route 24 Southbound Detour(9 p.m.- 5 a.m.)
(Coming from the North Route 24)

1. Start outgoing South on 24 S

2. Take Exit 8A

3. Enter rotary and continue straight onto N. Main St.

4. Continue on N. Main street South to the Route 79 on ramp

5. Take left onto Route 79 SB

6. Continue South on Route 79 towards the Davol Street Exit on the right.

7. Take the Davol Street Exit/ Route 6E and proceed to the intersection of Davol & President Avenue.

8. Turn Left onto President Avenue / Route 6E

9. Continue East on President Avenue and proceed uphill to the ROTARY

10. Enter rotary and take the 2nd exit to Route 24 South.
