Fall River ranks in top 5 for best places in the country to retire according to report
Three local cities have made the top 5 places to live for retirees according to a new report.
ChamberofCommerce.org issued their 2019 ranking Tuesday of the best cities for retirees. The rankings are based on aspects such as cost of living, quality of life, and crime.
Fall River took the number 5 spot while New Bedford came in #1. Warwick, RI placed third.
Here is what ChamberofCommerce.org had to say about Fall River.
“In addition to its unique cultural makeup, Fall River also has a number of points of interest that prove attractive to retirees. History buffs will love Battleship Cove, which is the largest naval ship exhibit in the world and features the USS Massachusetts, while Fall River Heritage State Park, located on the waterfront, provides hiking opportunities for physically active seniors. With a median monthly housing cost of just $804, a nearly 20% share of senior citizens, low crime, and a high density of physicians, the hard numbers further reinforce Fall River’s reputation as an excellent retirement destination.”
The top 5 are:
1. New Bedford, Massachusetts
2. Quincy, Massachusetts
3. Warwick, Rhode Island
4. New York, New York
5. Fall River, Massachusetts

Neighborhood Scout says otherwise…
“The crime rate in Fall River is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America from the largest to the smallest, although at 27 crimes per one thousand residents, it is not among the communities with the very highest crime rate. The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Fall River is 1 in 37. Based on FBI crime data, Fall River is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Massachusetts, Fall River has a crime rate that is higher than 96% of the state’s cities and towns of all sizes. In fact, after researching dangerous places to live, NeighborhoodScout found Fall River to be one of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the U.S.A.”

I have read this article 4 times in the past 2 days. Thank you for publishing this hilarious article by an author who at least had the intellectual honesty to not want to sign their name to it.

What kind of brain dead idiot wrote this article or I should actually say what kind of brain dead idiot from chamber of commerce though this was a good idea? Please walk off a cliff if you think new Bedford or fall river dumps are a good place to retire in. And the headline…All local places but compared as best in country? What a joke

Most ridiculous statement I have ever heard. There’s no transportation, no taxis, have you seen the hills. No doctors. Ya ok good retirement for seniors.Not!. When I retire this is the last place I look to spend the rest of my days.
