Fall River Public Schools moving forward with redistricting changes
According to a letter sent to families from interim Deputy Superintendent of Schools Elizabeth Legault, Fall River Public Schools is moving forward with a redistricting plan aimed at creating more equitable, balanced, and sustainable learning environments across the district.
The redistricting effort, which began two years ago with the reopening of Westall Elementary School, seeks to address enrollment imbalances and improve access for all students. According to the district, the changes will help reduce class sizes and create more consistent student-to-teacher ratios, strengthen neighborhood school alignment, allowing more students to attend schools closer to home, improve long-term facility and staffing planning, and support smoother transitions between elementary and middle school.
As a result of these adjustments, some elementary and middle school students may be reassigned to a different school for the 2026-2027 school year.
Greene, Letourneau, and Henry Lord School families are invited to join on Tuesday, April 28th, at 5:00 PM in the Letourneau School cafeteria at 323 Anthony Street for a meeting to preview proposed redistricting changes, including adding Grade 6 at Letourneau School next year, relocating the Dual Language Nueva Vista Program from Viveiros to Greene Elementary, and changes to the current Henry Lord Community School boundaries.
Tansey, Spencer Borden, Silvia, and Westall Elementary School families are invited to join on Wednesday, April 29th at 4:00 PM in the Spencer Borden cafeteria (located at 1400 President Avenue) for a meeting to preview proposed redistricting changes, including relocating some special education programs from Spencer Borden to Silvia Elementary School and changes to current school boundaries.
Talbot and Morton Middle School families are invited to join on Wednesday, April 29th, at 5:00 PM in the Talbot Middle School auditorium (located at 124 Melrose Street) for a meeting to preview proposed redistricting changes including changes to current school boundaries.
Families whose children will be affected by the redistricting will receive direct notification from the district no later than May 29th.
Students in specialized programs such as English Language Learner or Special Education may receive additional communications regarding placements and services.
The district emphasized its commitment to supporting families through the transition and expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and partnership.
