Fall River Police risk safety to save suicidal man’s life in evening water rescue

Members of the Fall River Police Department saved a man’s life Tuesday evening.
According to Lieutenant Matthew Mendes, at approximately 6:50 pm, officers responded to the Battleship Cove area for a report of a man who had jumped into the water in an apparent suicide attempt.
After a thorough search, the man was found under the boardwalk, losing consciousness due to the cold.
Mendes stated that officers acted quickly, risking their own safety to hoist him back to the boardwalk.
The man was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and his health is reportedly stable at this time.
