Fall River police officer transported to RI Hospital after injuries in south end crash
A Fall River police officer was injured this morning in a crash in the south end of the city.
According to Captain Barden Castro, at approximately 9:07 a.m., Fall River Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the city to assist the Fall River Fire Department with a medical emergency which was reported to be someone not breathing. While travelling to the scene of the medical call, one of the police cruisers was involved in a crash at the intersection of Slade and Bay Street.
Castro stated that preliminary information is that the police vehicle was travelling west on Slade Street and collided with a motor vehicle travelling north on Bay Street. Only one officer was in the police cruiser and was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with what are being characterized as non-life-threatening injuries. It is believed that the civilian driver was uninjured in the crash.
Accident Reconstruction and Crime Scene personnel responded to the scene to photograph, measure, and assist with the investigation.
Castro said that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
