Fall River Police made several arrests after a large weekend disturbance shut down a roadway.

According to police, on Sunday just before 12:30 a.m., “officers from the Fall River Police Department’s B Division responded to multiple reports of reckless driving, street racing, and blocked roadways throughout the city. The incidents were part of a coordinated and preplanned event intended to disrupt traffic and disturb the peace of the community.”

Police say that “similar events have occurred in neighboring towns, often with large crowds engaging in dangerous behavior and the response was little more than dispersal efforts. These gatherings intentionally block roads, endanger the public through negligent vehicle operation, and interfere with emergency services. Such actions are deliberate public disturbances and are not protected assemblies.”

“On Innovation Way, a private ambulance was forced to reroute when participants refused to allow passage. Soon after, officers responded to Davol Street and Central Street, where approximately 200 participants had completely blocked the roadway. Individuals in high-visibility vests acted as road guards while vehicles performed burnouts and donuts, and fireworks were set off in the street. Many participants wore masks to conceal their identities and showed complete disregard for police presence.

“Davol Street, which provides direct access to St. Anne’s Hospital and Charlton Memorial Hospital, was entirely shut down, posing a serious public safety hazard for Fall River and surrounding towns.

An investigation revealed “the group had gathered earlier in Brockton before traveling as a convoy to Fall River. Officers towed four vehicles and made five arrests on scene. A warrant request is pending for one additional suspect, and further identifications are ongoing through body-worn camera footage.”

The following individuals were arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, and Conspiracy:

• Jahir Gonzalez (22) of New Bedford

• Alexander Copsetta (21) of North Easton

• Alyssa Deyoung (19) of Bridgewater

• Mackenzie Benjamin (19) of Kingston

•Aiden Meehen (20) of Oxford was charged with the above offenses and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License.

A warrant has been requested for Brennden Ortega (19) of New Bedford on similar charges, including Resisting Arrest.

At arraignment on Monday, all pled not guilty and were released on personal recognizance.
