Police are investigating an act of vandalism which occurred at Bicentennial Park in Fall River adjacent to the war memorials.

Bruce Aldrich, who heads the Marine Corps League, told Fall River Reporter that he was notified by a frequent visitor to the park that black spray paint was on the sidewalk underneath a bench. The police were then called to begin the investigation.

According to Sergeant Moses Pereira of FRPD, Detectives assigned to the Major Crimes Division are currently viewing surveillance video in an attempt to identify a suspect.

Aldrich stated that the visitor did not see the graffiti on Sunday but saw it on Monday morning.

Sergeant Pereira said that due to the timeframe of when the vandalism occurred and the large number of cameras in the area, there is a considerable amount of video footage to review. He did not want to release additional information until detectives have an opportunity to check all of the video and utilize other investigative techniques.

Aldrich also stated that in addition to the recent vandalism, dog owners are frequently not picking up after their pets at the park. It happens so often that a sign was placed stating dogs are not allowed on a walkway.

He also spoke of one instance where people were having a picnic on the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Wall.

If you have any information on the vandalism, contact Fall River Police at (508) 324-2787.
