The Fall River Police Department is warning the public concerning a scam that is currently taking place.

According to FRPD, there is a phone scam being reported where the scammer tells the potential victim that their options are either to surrender themselves to the Fall River Police Department for arrest, or that they may pay a fine to adjudicate the warrant. The scammer provides instruction on how the payment should be submitted, usually through an “eGift” cash card or similar payment to a specified account or name given by the caller.

The scam appears to be “spoofing” phone numbers that appear to be coming from the Fall River Police Department. The FRPD will is not currently calling about outstanding warrants, and they say that they will never ask for payment over the phone or offer to negotiate for reduced payment in lieu of arrest.
