Fall River Police Department, Father Rob, set record at Guns For Groceries event
The Fall River Police Department and Father Rob held Saturday the annual Guns For Groceries event to help decrease gun injury and gun violence.
The program offered grocery gift cards for guns – no questions asked.
Anyone who returned a shotgun or long gun received a $75 gift card. Handguns returned earned a $100 gift card. Several community partners supported the event.
Domino’s Pizza certificates were passed out for all items turned in including bb and pellet guns, knives, and ammo.
Free gun locks were also available.
The event takes place, in part, to remember Rev. Dr. Robert Lawrence who was an important part of the gun buyback program until his passing on October 2nd in 2018.
According to the Fall River Police Department, a record was set Saturday. 51 handguns, 60 long guns and a numerous amount of BB guns were turned in.
