Fall River Police Department arrests 2 after thousands in merchandise stolen in break-in
Fall River Police have made 2 arrests after an investigation into a break-in at a city business.
According to police, on Thanksgiving night, patrol officers responded to a break in progress at Jay’s Liquors at 1702 President Avenue after motion alerts were received and surveillance footage showed two males forcing entry through a rear door.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the door had been kicked in and the suspects had already fled. Inside, surveillance video showed the two males, one masked and the other unmasked, entering the store and stealing assorted liquor bottles, vapes, and small items totaling almost $3,600. The suspects made several trips through the rear door to remove the stolen merchandise and fled in a vehicle that could not be identified from the footage. Crime Scene Unit Detectives processed the scene and collected surveillance evidence.
On December 5th, the lead detective on the case, Det. Matthew Gauvin, and other detectives from the Major Case Division, executed a search warrant at an apartment in the Fordney Street Apartments Housing Development. The warrant was granted after the detective reviewed multiple surveillance cameras from several different locations and determined the involvement of the apartment’s residents in the liquor store break from Thanksgiving, establishing the nexus necessary for the warrant.
As a result of the search, two juveniles (ages 16 and 17) were arrested and charged with: Breaking & Entering in the Nighttime for Felony, Larceny from a building and Vandalize Property. Evidence of the break, including identifiable clothing, tools, and some of the stolen merchandise, was recovered.
This remains an ongoing investigation to determine if there are additional crimes involved.
