Fall River Police currently on scene investigating city shooting that claimed life of 20-year-old, family member in custody

Fall River Police are on scene of a shooting that took place on Saturday.

According to police, earlier this afternoon, Fall River Police Department officers responded to a residence at 983 Rodman Street after receiving a 911 call reporting that a young man had been shot inside.

Upon arrival, officers located a 20-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby trauma center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

A family member was taken into custody in connection with the incident, which remains under active investigation. Police say that at this time, it appears to be an isolated event, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The case is being investigated by the Fall River Police Department, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office Homicide Prosecutors.

FRPD issued the following statement.

“This is a tragic loss of life, and our deepest sympathies go out to the victim’s family. We ask our community to come together in support of those affected during this difficult time. Additionally, we encourage everyone to approach discussions on social media with discernment, love, and compassion.”
