Fall River Police arrest teen on several firearm charges after foot pursuit through school, housing development
A local juvenile is facing several gun charges after a recent foot pursuit involving the Fall River Police Department.
According to police, on Sunday, CAST Detectives were proactively patrolling the Flint Neighborhood when they observed a male they recognized from prior investigations. The individual, a 16-year-old, was already suspected of being in possession of an illegal firearm and was actively displaying characteristics consistent with being armed.
Detectives approached while identifying themselves as police officers. Upon seeing the detectives, the teen immediately fled on foot, disregarding all verbal commands. During the pursuit, detectives observed the suspect continue to display the actions of an armed individual (keeping an arm pinned to their side while the other arm swings naturally and freely.) The suspect was seen discarding a firearm under an outdoor stairway at Father Diaferio Village before continuing to flee.
Detectives secured the firearm and broadcast the direction of travel. Hearing the calls over the radio for a foot pursuit, the Harbor Master and Harbor Patrol officer quickly responded to the area by car and successfully apprehended the male as he ran through the grounds of Fonseca Elementary School toward Pine Street.
The Crime Scene Unit collected the discarded firearm, identified as a Sig Sauer P365 9mm equipped with a 10-round magazine containing 9 rounds, along with 1 round in the chamber.
The juvenile was placed under arrest and charged with Firearm, Carry Without License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Firearm Without License, Carry Loaded in Public, and Firearm, Defaced Serial Number.
