Fall River Police arrest man recently released from prison on new drug and gun charges
Fall River Police have arrested a man on several charges who was recently released from prison.
According to police, in the late hours on Wednesday, the C.A.S.T. unit with the support of E.S.U. executed a search warrant at an apartment on Peckham Street searching for 25-year-old Jayden Smith.
Jayden had been arrested in 2016 for multiple charges to include murder. He was found guilty of manslaughter and ordered to serve 8.5-11.5 years in state prison. He was recently released from prison in November and was placed on parole. Jayden wasted no time to start gaining the attention of law enforcement and racking up criminal charges.
Over the past two months, C.A.S.T. detectives received information that Smith was allegedly selling illegal narcotics, in possession of an illegal firearm, and had made threats toward law enforcement. Investigators also learned Smith was allegedly promoting and selling gang-related merchandise designed to antagonize the rival gang “Asian Boyz,” including baseball caps displaying an upside-down “A,” a symbol of disrespect toward the group.
Upon execution of the search warrant, E.S.U. members entered the apartment building. Detectives stationed on the perimeter of the building observed a handgun and a satchel being thrown from the 3rd floor apartment as they could hear police announcing themselves. Smith was located in the 3rd floor bedroom from which the items had been thrown from. He was safely taken into custody without incident. The firearm was identified as a Glock 43X 9mm with an extended magazine containing 19 rounds. The satchel contained approximately 24.16 grams of fentanyl and 7.68 grams of cocaine.
Jayden Smith was arrested for the following charges:
• Community Parole Supervision Violation
• Drug, Possess to Distribute Class B
• Heroin/Morphine/Opium/Fentanyl, Trafficking 18+ Grams
• Firearm, Carry Without License (2nd Offense)
• Firearm, Carry Without License Loaded (2nd Offense)
• Firearm, Possess Large Capacity
• Firearm Violation with 2 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
• Firearm in Felony, Possess Large Capacity
According to court records, at Thursday’s arraignment, Smith pled not guilty and was held without bail pending Monday’s dangerousness hearing.
