Fall River Police arrest man on list of charges concerning 2 city shootings, crash
A Fall River man is facing nearly a dozen charges after shootings on Thursday.
According to Det. Sergeant Matthew Mendes, the Fall River Police Department has arrested 32-year-old Darrell Lane-Sanders in connection with the shootings that occurred in the area of 715 North Main Street and the subsequent shooting that occurred in the area of Hood and Robeson Street.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the Patrol Bureau (B-Division) responded to the 700 block of North Main Street after multiple calls were received reporting gun shots being heard in the area.
These reports were then followed by additional calls regarding active gunshots being heard in the area of Hood and Robeson Street.
Officers responded to both locations to investigate, as additional information was being received regarding a possible suspect vehicle, along with a male suspect who was observed in possession of a firearm.
As officers were responding to the area of Hood and Robeson Street, another caller reported that the shooting suspect was observed operating a green Jeep Liberty and had crashed into a parked vehicle at said intersection.
Upon arrival to the area, officers were flagged down by a witness who directed them toward the suspect (Lane-Sanders). The officers then observed the suspect walking near the green Jeep
Liberty, which officers noted as having multiple gunshot holes to its driver’s side. Officers then detained Lane-Sanders who was found to be in possession of a 17 round firearm magazine and an ice pick.
While this was taking place, officers were flagged down by another witness who reported seeing Lane-Sanders walking around on Hood Street with a firearm in his hand and then showed investigators where the suspect had dropped the firearm. The firearm was then located and is identified as a Glock 9mm equipped with a 32 round extended magazine containing 9mm ammunition, with a round loaded in the chamber.
In conjunction with this investigation, members of the Crime Scene Unit responded to investigate and process the scene. Amongst the evidence collected, 3 spent shell casings were
located on North Main Street and a bullet had hit a nearby residence. 7 spent shell casings were located at the intersection of Hood and Robeson Street.
Lane-Sanders was charged with Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Carrying a Loaded Firearm W/O LTC, Carry a Firearm W/O LTC, Possession of Ammunition, (2) Discharge of a Firearm Within 500ft of a Building, Resisting Arrest, Negligent Operation of M/V, Failure to Use Care Stopping, and Vandalism.
This investigation is still active. Anyone with further information is urged to contact the Fall River Police Department’s Major Case Division at 508-324-2796 or call the Police Department’s anonymous tips line at 508-672-TIPS.
