Fall River Police arrest man accused of breaking into home, attacking homeowner with knife

Fall River Police have made an arrest concerning an incident that took place over the weekend.

According to police, on Saturday, Fall River Police Patrol Bureau responded to a reported stabbing at a residence on the 1000 block of Laurel Street. An unknown male later identified as 28-year-old Gahetan Jean-Louis, entered the home uninvited and proceeded inside. When confronted by the homeowner and asked if he was in the wrong house or needed help, Jean-Louis suddenly attacked him with a knife.

The victim was stabbed multiple times. Family members witnessed the assault, attempted to intervene, and briefly restrained Jean-Louis before he fled the residence. A black folding pocket knife was later located on the stairs and secured as evidence.

Officers quickly located and detained Jean-Louis nearby. He was taken into custody without further incident. The victim was transported to a trauma center for non-life-threatening injuries.

Based on the investigation, Gahetan Jean-Louis was charged with Home Invasion and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

He has been ordered by the court to be evaluated for competency to stand trial at Bridgewater State Hospital returnable on January 16th for a hearing to review status.
