Fall River Police arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted a friend and responding officers.
According to Deputy Chief Barden Castro, on Thursday, at just after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Rodman Street for a report of a man who was acting erratically.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a female who stated that she and her friend, 55-year-old Josani Silva, had been drinking earlier in the evening. According to the female, Silva subsequently consumed a substance she believed to be an illicit drug. She reported that Silva then assaulted her with a piece of wood taken from a broken door frame. At some point during the incident, Silva prevented the victim from leaving the residence for several hours. The victim was eventually able to escape after convincing Silva that she had not stolen anything from him.
Officers located Silva inside the residence, where he was found partially clothed. While officers were detaining him, Silva urinated on one of the responding officers.
As a result, Silva was placed under arrest and charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Kidnapping, and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.
Court records show that at arraignment in Fall River District Court, Silva pled not guilty and was released on personal recognizance with a pretrial hearing scheduled for November 10th.
