Fall River officials help bring Griffin Park to life
Griffin Park at Fourth & Branch Street in Fall River has been transformed.
As stated by Mayor Correia, Griffin Park hadn’t gotten a lot of attention in recent years. There were missing basketball hoops and no benches to sit on. On movie nights, children had to sit on the dirt. There was broken glass. There wasn’t even a flagpole to honor the namesake of the park. At least for now, those days are over.
Thanks to $300,000 from the Community Development Agency and director Mike Dion, Griffin Park is now a beautiful area that city residents can be proud of. Transforming Griffin Park was a collaborative effort between Correia, Dion, Special Assistant to the Mayor Monica Sousa, State Representative Alan Silvia, and Nancy Smith from the Parks Division.
Now the park is graced with a brand new playground, basketball court, benches, a flag pole, and beautiful green grass. There is even an area for children to play hopscotch.
Mark Conrad, president of the Corky Row Neighborhood Association, pleaded with area residents to step up and take care of the park to keep it in its current state.
More events are now expected to be planned for the park.
