Fall River non-profit to be honored for work providing food, clothing, and spiritual guidance to community
(Fall River, MA, May 24, 2023) – Gates of Hope, a Fall River non-profit dedicated to fighting hunger, will be honored by East Bay Community Action Program with a 2023 Vision Award at its 18th Annual Seaside Gala on June 15 at Atlantic Resort Newport. Accepting the award will be Faith Scallion, President of Gates of Hope.
The EBCAP Vision Awards are presented to individuals and organizations that have made a profound impact on the agency, the lives of its clients, and the surrounding community. Gates of Hope is being recognized for its ongoing work to increase food access. This organization has been collaborating with EBCAP’s East Bay Recovery Center by bringing its mobile food pantry to the town of Warren, RI and providing food and hope for EBCAP clients and the greater community.
“Faith and her volunteers have come to our center every month for well over a year, providing food, clothing, and spiritual guidance for all residents of Rhode Island’s East Bay region,” said George O’Toole, Associate Director, East Bay Recovery Center. Weather is no deterrent. “They have come out on warm, sunny days, but also on rainy, snowy, and below freezing temperature days to provide these services to the community, and this has a profound impact,” continued O’Toole.
Gates of Hope also provides the same services to the Fall River area for the last 8 years.
Also being recognized as 2023 Vision Award recipients are Brenda and Cameron Booth of Rumford, RI, volunteers at EBCAP’s Career Closet; Dr. Tonya Glantz of Rhode Island College for her support of EBCAP’s Transgender Whole Health program; and Baby Steps Advisory Group members Louisa Boatwright, Amintha Cinotti, Lissa Fernandez, and Linda Finn, for their long-standing commitment and dedication to early childhood education and social development of young children.
David Bachrach, Community Development Director for the City of East Providence, will receive EBCAP’s 2023 Public Service Award for his leadership and advocacy in support of safe and affordable housing, for his collaboration to help EBCAP better serve its clients, and for actively engaging to improve the well-being of East Providence residents.
The fundraising portion of EBCAP’s 18th Annual Seaside Gala will feature an online auction, offering a variety of dining, hotel stays, travel, family fun, sports tickets, and more. Auction items are available for preview now at biddingforgood.com/EBCAP. Featured items will include a Holland America Line Cruise for two people to either Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Canada/New England, a round of golf for four people at Newport Country Club, a two-person Island Tour at Newport Helicopter Tours, and a Sunset Cruise on a private sailboat for up to six people.
