Fall River, New Bedford Police respond after report of woman stabbed, possibly at feast

Two local police departments responded after a woman was stabbed, possibly at a popular feast.

According to Fall River Deputy Police Chief Barden Castro, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Fall River Police were notified that a 29-year-old female was at Charlton Memorial Hospital receiving treatment for an apparent stab wound which she was reporting occurred at the Madeira Feast in New Bedford.

New Bedford Police were contacted, responded, and are handling the investigation.

According to the New Bedford Police Union, Uniform Patrol Officers responded to Charlton Memorial Hospital.

Upon arrival to Charlton, officers spoke with the female victim, who stated that she suffered a single stab wound to her left side, above her thigh. There were no other injuries suffered and she is expected to make a full recovery. She did inform officers that the incident possibly occurred at the Madeira Feast, however it is unknown at this time if there was a disturbance in the area she described that would have resulted in a stabbing.

The Criminal Investigative Division was contacted and provided all pertinent details that had been obtained at that time, and they will be conducting a follow up to the incident. Uniform Patrol Officers collected potential evidence and this will be turned over to CID.
