Fall River native Tecia (Torres) Pennington sees win streak snapped at UFC Fight Night
A Fall River native’s win streak was halted after Saturday’s UFC contest.
#13 ranked Strawweight Tecia (Torres) Pennington (15-8) took on #15 ranked (12-3) Denise Gomes of Brazil at UFC Fight Night 264 in Las Vegas at the UFC Apex.
While the fight looked close on paper, with Gomes having 2 more total strikes and Pennington having 5 more significant strikes, the decision was unanimous on all three cards (30-27) for Gomes.
With Pennington expressing in a UFC interview this week how much she enjoys being a mother (more so than a fighter) you have to wonder how many more times we will see her in the octagon.
Gomes is on a streak of her own winning her last four fights including previously undefeated Eduarda Moura.
Before Saturday, Pennington had won her last two fights after two controversial split decision losses.
On May 17th, Pennington took on 11-5 Luana Pinheiro of Brazil at UFC Fight Night at UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
All three judges scored the fight 29-28 Pennington.
While it seemed as though Pennington was in control through most of the fight, the pair did have several back-and-forth exchanges.
Pennington was coming off a victory in October against California’s Carla Esparza (20-7) in UFC 307 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
The Tiny Tornado won by unanimous decision taking all three cards 29-28, 29-28, and 30-27.
Esparza retired after the fight which was planned to be her last.
