Fall River native killed in pedestrian crash in Dartmouth remembered for fun-loving spirit

DARTMOUTH, MA – A Fall River native has been killed in a pedestrian crash.

According to police, on Sunday, at just before 4:30 a.m. near the Moby Dick Motel, 617 State Road (Route 6), Dartmouth Police responded to an incident regarding a person in the roadway who was struck by a vehicle.

Dartmouth Police Officers found that 49-year-old Clifford Kerns of New Bedford had been hit by a car. He was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Kerns died in the hospital the following day.

At this time, no charges have been filed.

Kerns was described as someone with a big heart and bright soul.

According to an obituary, Kerns “was known for his fun-loving spirit and his ability to bring joy to those around him. Despite the challenges he faced in life, he was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend. He lived life on his own terms and will be remembered for the laughter he brought to others and his deep love for his family. Though his journey was not always easy, the memories of his kindness and humor will remain with those who knew him.”

The crash remains under investigation by the Dartmouth Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and the District Attorney’s office.
