Fall River MMA star ready to give back as member of Fall River Police Department
An international MMA standout from Fall River is taking his talents to a new career path.
Yorgan De Castro has been stacking up wins ever since he impressed UFC President Dana White on the Contender Series in 2019, earning him a contract with the organization. He went viral after knocking out Justin Tafa seconds into his debut.
Training and coaching out of the Regiment Training Center, De Castro piled up titles in MMA promotions across the world and even scored a win in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
De Castro is now transitioning into a new profession, and criminals better take note.
“The Mad Titan” graduated Friday from the Police Academy in Randolph.
Fall River Reporter asked De Castro about his new career and what brought about the decision to represent FRPD.
“Being a police officer is about service. Fall River has given me so much, and now I want to return the favor. By becoming a police officer, I can combine my passion for leadership, my ability to work under pressure, and my desire to help others into a role that truly makes a difference. I am ready to take on this responsibility, build strong relationships with the community, and work toward a safer, stronger city.”
For De Castro, it’s about giving back.
“This is my way to give back to the city that carried me over through my entire fighting career. I love Fall River.”
According to the Fall River Police Department, “after months of intense physical and mental training, (De Castro and the other graduates) now transition to the Field Training Program at the Fall River Police Department, where they will continue their development in rules, regulations, procedures, laws, and tactics. While training alongside our dedicated Field Training Officers, these recruits will gain real world experience and guidance. Upon successful completion, they are expected to be patrolling independently by the beginning of the summer.”
Despite delivering knockouts at a violent pace, De Castro has been an exemplary member of the community and a role model for the city’s youth, still, if you are a criminal, do you really want to run on this guy? I would think twice if I were you.
