Fall River mill containing well-known businesses expected to become self-storage facility

A Fall River mill filled with various businesses could soon become a self-storage facility.

According to an October Fall River Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, Bravo Development LLC will be turning the Borden Mill at 288 Plymouth Avenue into an indoor storage facility after being granted a waiving of zoning requirements in a medical district pending a review of the property when work is completed.

While the sale of the property is not yet official, the commercial real estate website Loopnet says that the property is under contract.

Some of the businesses residing in the mill include Straight Shooters, Lazer Gate, Inside The Park Batting Cages, Trader Jan’s, Coastal Career Academy, and Carter’s Clothing and Footwear.

According to Attorney Thomas Killoran, who represented Bravo Development at the meeting, the plan is for a complete rehab of the building in the interior in addition to aesthetic improvements to the exterior and the parking lot. The property will have 24-hour surveillance and two new loading ramps.

The 190,000-square-foot facility, which currently only has a 66% occupancy, will be part of a self-storage chain.

The business will be staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

According to WJAR 10, none of the current occupants have received an eviction notice as of yet.

So many business owners financially destroyed and so many employees losing their jobs. All because people have too much stuff that they need to store it elsewhere. The new owners state it will be staffed 24-7 but really all they need is surveillance and monitoring with minimal employee hours. Does not come near what will be lost by closing all these businesses. Also some of the businesses in order to start over will cost a few hundred thousand which they cannot afford. What a disservice to the people of Fall River.
