Fall River Memorial Day weekend events announced
Several events will be taking place in Fall River to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
FRIDAY, MAY 24, 2019:
The City of Fall River will be conducting a Flag Raising Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. at the main entrance of Oak Grove Cemetery, Prospect St., Fall River, MA and will be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
FRIDAY, MAY 24, and SATURDAY, MAY 25, 2019:
The City of Fall River’s Graves/Flags Officer and volunteers will be placing approximately 11,000 American Flags on veterans’ graves throughout the city and will also place 30 memorial wreaths on veterans’ monuments throughout the city.
SUNDAY, MAY 26, 2019:
A memorial ceremony in honor of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. James T. Griffin who was killed in action in Germany on June 11, 1943 during WWII and a dedication of a new flag pole will be made to honor all citizens from Corky Row neighborhood who have served our country. Ceremony will be held at Griffin Park, located at Fourth, Fifth and Branch Streets at 11:00 a.m., rain or shine. Assembly is at Corky Row Club on Third and Branch Streets immediately preceding the ceremony. Public is invited.
MONDAY, MEMORIAL DAY, MAY 27, 2019:
The City of Fall River will be conducting a Memorial Ceremony in honor of U.S. Army Pvt. Michael E. Bouthot, U.S. Army National Guard Sgt. Robert J. Barrett and U.S. Army Spc, Scott A. Andrews, who were killed in action in the Global War on Terrorism. There will also be a dedication in honor of SPC Eric M. Emond who was killed in action on November 27, 2018 in Afghanistan while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom. This ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Snake Hill in North Park, President Ave., Fall River, MA and will be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
MONDAY, MEMORIAL DAY, MAY 27, 2019:
Attorney Richard Urban will be holding a memorial ceremony in honor of U.S. Army Corporal David L. Miller, a WWII Prisoner of War and survivor of the Bataan Death March of 1942, who died in a Japanese prison camp in 1943. Ceremony will be held rain or shine at 11:30 a.m. at the Miller Green located at the intersection of South Main and Shove Streets. Public is invited.
MONDAY, MEMORIAL DAY, MAY 27, 2019:
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 207 will be conducting their annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 12:00 noon aboard the USS Massachusetts at Battleship Cove, Fall River, MA and will be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
MONDAY, MEMORIAL DAY, MAY 27, 2019:
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 207 will be holding a prayer service and military honors at 1:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Monument located in upper Kennedy Park, So. Main St., (across from St. Anne’s Church), Fall River, MA and will be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
MONDAY, MEMORIAL DAY, MAY 27, 2019:
The City of Fall River and the Fall River Veterans’ Council will be conducting the annual Memorial Day Parade that will travel from Kennedy Park, So. Main St., east on Sullivan Drive to Third St., Fall River, MA and will conclude at the Fall River Government Center Atrium, One Government Center, where closing ceremonies will be held. Assembly of parade is at Kennedy Park, corner of So. Main St. and Bradford Ave. at 1:00 p.m. and step off is at 2:00 p.m., rain or shine. Public is invited.
