The treasurer of a Fall River candidate for mayor is responding to allegations made this week at a debate.

Goretty Medeiros, who is the treasurer for Gabriel “Boomer” Amaral, took to social media over comments made by Mayor Paul Coogan concerning Amaral’s OCPF account.

She released the following:

“As the current “Certified Treasurer” for the committee to elect Gabriel “Boomer” Amaral for Mayor of Fall River, I have to set the record straight and call out the false statements that were made by the current Mayor Paul Coogan, about Boomer’s filing with the OCPF from Tuesday’s debate. I’m a business owner in the city of Fall River and refuse to have my name tarnished by lies. You can find all this information on www.ocpf.us and see that this account has been in good standing for 2025 and any issues Boomer had with his previous Treasurer was all resolved.

Statements made by the Mayor:

“He didn’t have his treasurer certified this year”

FALSE! PLEASE SEE MY CERTIFICATION!

“He’s getting notices…. He’s still getting them in 2025. It’s not truthful”

FALSE! I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ONE NOTICE IN 2025. I DID RECEIVE A PHONE CALL TO CLARIFY AN EXPENSE OF WHICH HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE. ABSOLUTELY NO NOTICES.

“He went sour in 2025 unless OCPF has it wrong”

“FALSE AGAIN, OCPF DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING WRONG! I CALLED OCPF TO MAKE SURE THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN POSTED INCORRECTLY AND THEY WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE ACCOUNT WITH ME TODAY. AS YOU CAN SEE ATTACHED, THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO RED CHECK MARKS OR ANYTHING THAT MAKES HIS VERY SIMPLE OCPF ACCOUNT MANAGEABLE OF WHICH I MANAGE FOR HIM. BOOMER DOES NOT MANAGE THIS ACCOUNT. THIS ACCOUNT HAS BEEN MANAGED BEAUTIFULLY BY ME. I TAKE PRIDE IN WHAT I DO. I LOVE ACCOUNTING, TAXES, SAVING PEOPLE MONEY AND I REFUSE TO SIT HERE AND LET ANYONE THAT DOESN’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO GO ONLINE AND CHECK A CERTIFICATION THAT IS RIGHT THERE FOR ALL TO SEE TARNISH MY REPUTATION JUST SO HE CAN TAKE A JAB AT MY BROTHER-IN-LAW.”

Fall River Reporter looked at Amaral’s OCPF which does not appear to show any violations in 2025.

In 2024, Amaral was initially penalized $2,325 for filing late ($25 per day) after multiple warnings, however, the fine was later waived after Amaral filed a waiver due to “negligible activity in two years, good cause personal issue resulted in late filing.”

In 2023, Amaral was fined $75 dollars for being three days late and appears to be resolved.

In 2022, Amaral was also initially fined $425 but had it waived due to “low balance; issues addressed; medical issue.”
