Fall River man with 20-page record sentenced to prison after violently attacking father
A 42-year-old Fall River man with a long history as a domestic abuser was sentenced to prison Wednesday after violently attacking his father.
Nathan Norwood pled guilty to Assault and Battery with Serious Bodily Injury and Assault and Battery on 60+/Disabled with Serious Injury and was sentenced to 8 years in prison with a 125-day credit for time served.
According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, on March 23rd of this year, Norwood was doing drugs in his room. He came out and when his 68-year-old father confronted him about the drug use, he physically attacked him while he was sitting in his chair. He punched him multiple times in the face resulting in fractures to his face.
According to the Bristol County DA’s Office, Norwood has a 20-page record replete with domestic abuse cases, at least 11 past restraining orders lodged against him and multiple convictions for violating restraining orders and assaults on intimate partners.
In August of 2019, Norwood pled guilty to indictments charging him with intimidation, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a family or household member—subsequent offense, threats and resisting arrest for an incident in late 2018.
On December 28, 2018, Fall River Police responded to a domestic incident on June Street. Upon arrival, police located the female victim and accompanied her to the back of the building. While doing so, the defendant was attempting to flee by way of the fire escape. The defendant was approached by the officers and ordered to stop. Instead, the defendant, began drinking from a bottle of hard liquor and said, “Do you wanna kill me? I wanna kill you. We are gonna do this.” The defendant repeatedly refused to comply with officers’ command and had to be subdued by less lethal firearms three times before he finally relented.
The victim stated to police that the defendant broke into her home through a bathroom window, pushed her, picked up a knife and began waving it around while accusing her of infidelity. He also threatened to kill her. After eventually convincing him to drop the knife, the two went outside, at which point the victim locked him out of the house. The defendant, however, broke in through the bathroom window again. At that point, the victim told him she was calling the police, to which he replied that he would hurt her if she called.
The case was prosecuted by Courtney Cahill.

” According to the Bristol County DA’s Office, Norwood has a 20-page record replete with domestic abuse cases, at least 11 past restraining orders lodged against him and multiple convictions for violating restraining orders and assaults on intimate partners. ”
I’m amazed that the DA’s office would mention their blatant ineptitude in keeping a violent felon off the streets. Only in government can people be that bad at their jobs and nothing happens to them. Every judge who signed off on the slaps on the wrist this lunatic got should be removed from the bench.
