Fall River man sentenced to prison concerning fatal shooting of Fall River’s Maurice Timberlake

A  25-year-old Fall River man was convicted by a jury of his peers yesterday of First Degree Murder in connection to the Valentine’s Day 2018 shooting death of 24-year-old Maurice Timberlake, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

The jury convicted Keishon Workman of First Degree Murder and Carrying an Illegal Firearm after a two week trial in Fall River Superior Court.  After the verdict was reached, Judge Thomas McGuire sentenced the defendant to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. This was the maximum sentence allowed by law because the defendant was 19 years old at the time of the slaying.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Tara Burdman and Troy Murphy.

On Feb. 14, 2018, the defendant stalked and then ambushed the victim at the corner of South Main Street and Morgan Street in Fall River. The victim was shot seven times from close range during the broad daylight shooting.

According to multiple reports, Workman reportedly told police that he thought that Timberlake had shot him in a previous shooting and became enraged once he saw him. It turned out to be mistaken identity, however.

“This was a premeditated and brutal killing in broad daylight on a city street. The victim was shot seven times and the lives and safety of other innocent people were put in jeopardy by the defendant’s action. As stated in the victim impact statements after the verdict, this senseless murder has upended the lives of the victims family who loved him very much. I thank them for their patience during the past six years waiting for the opportunity to have the defendant held accountable by the jury. I hope the verdict brings some solace to the victim’s family. I want to thank the prosecution team for their efforts in presenting a strong case and the jury for their service during the two week trial,” District Attorney Quinn said.
