Fall River man sentenced in love triangle murder where man was stabbed 68 times

A 27-year-old Fall River man was sentenced to prison yesterday after pleading guilty to the Christmas Eve 2019 stabbing homicide of 39-year-old Gary Werra in Fall River, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Jose Amador-Ayala pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder. He was sentenced by Judge Renee Dupuis to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 22 years.

On December 24, 2019, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Fall River Police received a 911 call from a woman claiming Jose Amador-Ayala had just killed someone.  Police located the defendant outside of 76 Angel Street in Fall River with a knife on his person and bloody clothing.

Police took Amador-Ayala into custody and interviewed his sister, who told police that her mother received a call earlier in the day from Jose asking her to pick him up at 76 Angel Street. She went to the location and found Amador-Ayala yelling and in bloody clothing.  He asked her to come to the basement, where she saw a lifeless human body hastily wrapped up.  The body was that of the victim.  Amador-Ayala carried the body to his sister’s truck and ordered her to drive to a secluded area behind Gold Medal Bakery, where he disposed of the body.  During the ride, the defendant made admissions to stabbing and killing Werra.

The sister drove her brother back to the family home and then drove to her boyfriend’s house.  There she confided to her boyfriend and his mother what occurred.  The boyfriend’s mother then called 911.  The sister gave a recorded interview explaining what had just occurred, and brought the police to where the body was left. 

Gary Werra’s body was found wrapped up and dumped in a wooded area.  The medical examiner determined he suffered 68 stab wounds.

The subsequent investigation revealed that there was a love triangle between Amador-Ayala, the victim and a woman.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Patrick Driscoll and Gilian Kirsch.

“This was a brutal and senseless killing which was apparently motivated by both of their affections for the same woman. I appreciate the family’s patience during the almost five year court process. I hope the defendant accepting responsibility for the murder of their loved one will bring them some consolation,” District Attorney Quinn said.
