Fall River man sentenced after pleading guilty to firearm charges, other charges dismissed

A Fall River man was sentenced Thursday in Fall River Superior Court after pleading guilty to several firearm charges.
According to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira, in September of 2024, while on patrol in the Niagara section of the city, Vice Detective McGuire observed a male known to him as 26-year-old Keyante Mills.
Det. McGuire and other members of the Vice, Gang, and Intelligence Unit were aware that Mills had an outstanding arrest warrant.
As detectives began to approach him, a brief foot pursuit ensued before Mills was taken into custody.
Following his arrest, officers located a bag that Mills allegedly discarded prior to running from police. Inside the bag, detectives discovered a black Smith and Wesson 9mm firearm.
In addition to the outstanding arrest warrant, Keyante Mills was charged with carrying a firearm without a license to carry, carrying a loaded firearm without a license to carry, possession of a large capacity firearm, receiving a firearm with defaced serial number, and receiving stolen property.
Mills had previously been released on a GPS Monitoring bracelet for firearms related charges which he allegedly removed.
According to court records, on Wednesday, for his previous incident, Mills pled guilty to carrying a firearm without a license to carry and possession of a large capacity firearm. Carrying a loaded firearm without a license to carry and receiving a firearm with defaced serial number were dismissed.
For the incident in September of 2024, on Wednesday, Mills pled guilty to carrying a firearm without a license to carry, receiving a firearm with defaced serial number, and receiving stolen property. Carrying a loaded firearm without a license to carry was dismissed.
On Thursday, Mills was sentenced to not less than 2 1/2 years to not more than 4 years in prison with credit of 262 days already served.
