Fall River man out on bail arrested on new drug and gun charges after wrong-way crash
NEW BEDFORD- New Bedford police detectives have seized a loaded firearm and narcotics from a suspect out on bail after a wrong-way crash.
According to police, on April 30th at approximately 2:00 p.m., detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau were monitoring activity in the west-end sector. At this time, a vehicle was observed operating erratically in the area of Cottage Street/Hillman Street.
Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle which then fled from them at a high rate of speed. The detectives were then led on a brief chase throughout the west-end neighborhood during which the vehicle disregarded stop signs and traveled the wrong way on one-way streets. It ultimately collided with another auto in the area of Chancery St./Union St. causing heavy front-end damage.
Detectives took the operator into custody, who was then identified as 20-year-old Hayden Andrade of Fall River. The operator of the vehicle he struck was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
During a subsequent search, detectives discovered a baggie containing approximately 24 grams of “crack” cocaine in Andrade’s vehicle along with a loaded, 9mm “Glock” handgun. $480 in cash was also located and seized as a result of the nature of his charges.
The detectives were familiar with Andrade, as he was the target of a recent search warrant executed on February 5th of this year. On that day he was found in possession of approximately 15 grams of cocaine and packaging materials. He was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and later bailed.
In addition to that open case, Andrade now stands charged with a variety of motor vehicle infractions, carrying a loaded firearm without a license while committing a felony, and trafficking in excess of 18 grams of cocaine. He is currently being held at the House of Correction without bail.

He’s a good kid. Just starting to get his life together. It’s a disease, he needs help not court. Do you send someone to jail if they get cancer?
