Patrol officers have taken a man into custody after finding him in possession of crack cocaine and a loaded handgun.

According to police, during the early morning hours on Sunday, units were called to the “Last Round Bar & Grill” in New Bedford for a fight in progress.

Upon arrival, it was learned that a male suspect had threatened the security staff with a firearm before fleeing the scene in a vehicle that he soon abandoned at the rear of the establishment. From there, he fled on foot, only to be stopped by officers a short distance away at the William St./Acushnet Ave. intersection.

The suspect initially provided a false name but was soon identified as 28-year-old Ricky Ricardo Lorenzi of Fall River. Lorenzi was found to have an active warrant for his arrest.

Within the vehicle from which he fled, two baggies of crack cocaine were discovered along with a digital scale. It was then learned that Lorenzi had discarded a firearm in the threshold of a nearby building.

The firearm recovered was a Taurus G3C loaded with a high-capacity extended magazine filled with 16 9 mm cartridges.

Lorenzi was taken into custody and charged with a number of serious offenses, including possession of a firearm loaded with a high-capacity magazine, threatening use of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of crack cocaine, among others.

Lorenzi was previously convicted of firearm possession in January 2023 and sentenced to two years. At the time of this arrest, he was on probation out of Fall River District Court.

The arresting officer was Shawn Raposo.
